SSCE: Don’t be distracted by elections, parents cautioned students

The Chairman of Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of Babcock University Schools, Ogba, Lagos chapter, Mr. Mykell Jegede has urged the secondary school students in the country to remain focused as they prepare for forthcoming Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) organized by WAEC and NECO as well as the Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME) by JAMB.

According to him, the current situation in the country such as the general elections which have generated tension and the insurgency in the Northeastern part of the country, among other boiling issues seem to be distracting students from their studies and if not addressed could lead to poor performance in their terminal exams.

He stated this during the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meeting of the school held at the school premises, recently.

Decrying high rate of failure in both WAEC and NECO organised exams particularly in English language and Mathematics in the recent years, Jegede expressed fear of repeat of similar poor performance in this year’s exams.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Principal of the school, Elder Gabriel Fasanu urged private school operators and the government to make instructional materials available in their schools for effective learning.

While appealing to parents to assist the schools in acquiring the items, he commended the Lagos State government for establishing an Educational Resource Centre to produce the materials and appealed to other state governments to do likewise.
